WordCamp Toronto FAQ

WordCamp Toronto will attract bloggers from around the Greater Toronto area as well as from across North America.

Q. Where will WordCamp Toronto be held?

A. Wordcamp Toronto will be held at the Student Centre @ Progress Campus of Centennial College, a school in the East end of Toronto (specifically in an area called Scarborough). If you are not familiar with the city view the map below.

Q. Why is Centennial College hosting this event?

A. The Centennial College Student Association Inc. (CCSAI) understand how much of an impact the internet has on students and the importance of training students about social media so they may be better equipped in their chosen careers.

The CCSAI has decided to host and sponser the conference because they believe students and the community will benefit when interacting with people who understand the importance of social media on future generations.

Q. Where should I stay while visiting Toronto?

A. The Holiday Inn Express at 50 Estate Drive in Scarborough is conveniently close to Centennial College’s Progress Campus. Map

Q. Which airport should I fly into?

A. Lester B. Pearson International Airport is Toronto’s main airport, located in the West end of the city.

The Toronto City Centre Airport located on the Toronto Islands near downtown Toronto is another option if you are flying from Montreal or Ottawa.

Shuttle buses run frequently from the Toronto airport to Union Station in downtown Toronto. From Union Station you can take public transit to Progress Campus.

Direction by TTC (Toronto Public Transit)

From Union Station take the subway Northbound to Bloor Station. Transfer onto the Bloor/Danforth line and go Eastbound till the end of the line (Kennedy Station). At Kennedy Station transfer onto the Scarborough RT and go Northbound towards McCowan Station. Get off at Scarborough Town Centre stop. Walk downstairs to the buses and get on the Progress 134C bus which will take you directly to the campus.

Q. What else is there to do in Toronto?

A. Toronto is a vibrant and multi-cultural city with a population of over 2.5 million. It is the largest city in Canada and the province of Ontario’s capital.

Q. Why is there a $25 charge?

A. The charge covers the cost of the t-shirts and name badges. The cost is a small enough fee that it doesn’t deter anyone from registering while assuring us that they will show up because they have already paid to register.

Q. Will lunch be provided during the two days of the conference?

A. Yes there will be sponsored lunch for both days and coffee available throughout the day.

Q. What should I bring to WordCamp Toronto?

A. At the very least bring yourself, but here are some suggestions:

  • your laptop computer if you have one, it’s BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop)
  • writing utensils and paper if you don’t have a computer
  • some business cards for networking
